Payment service Apple Pay is still used purely at payment terminals, but that seems to be changing. In iOS 14, a QR code function for Apple Pay has been discovered.

Apple Pay QR code payments on the go
The code was discovered in the second developer beta of iOS 14, available since last night. In the trial version, 9to5Mac saw a new feature in Apple Pay’s settings. Apple’s payment service would be prepared to support QR codes in addition to contactless payment terminals.
Although the function in the beta does not work yet, it is explained how this should be done later. Just as you can pay with Apple Pay now, you can scan a QR code with your iPhone camera in the near future. Then the Wallet app will open automatically if you have a debit card that supports Apple Pay.
That way, payments can also be made without a payment terminal. In theory, this could be useful, for example, for people who sell items but do not have an ATM and can quickly generate and print code to make it easy for customers to pay.
Apple Pay update after iOS 14?
Apple did not officially reveal the feature during WWDC 2020, which may mean we have to wait a little longer than that. For example, the company could now test the new Apple Pay feature so that it will be available in the form of iOS 14.1 or later after the final release of iOS 14. IOS 14 is expected to release to everyone in September. Before then, the public beta will be available in July.
