Chrome for Android will soon become a 64-bit application. The operating system introduced 64-bit support for the first time with Android 5.0 aka Lollipop – already in 2014. Arrived in 2020, basically, all chips support 64-bit, even with entry-level models this is the case. Time for apps to be upgraded.
Because to this day, Chrome for Android is still a 32-bit app. From version 85, however, this should change – but only from Android 10 or newer. The Chrome versions Chrome Dev and Chrome Canary, which respectively correspond to versions 85 and 86, are already run as 64-bit.

Why Google wants to reserve the Chrome version with 64-bit but devices with Android 10 is open. This will probably only be the case in the first step and then older OS versions will also be supplied.
Google itself stipulates that all apps in the Play Store must be available in 64-bit versions for supported devices by August 2021. Chrome 85 is due to be released for all Android users in August 2020. So there is still some time in between to finalize the changeover.
