US President Donald Trump announced Friday that he might be banning TikTok in the US on Saturday. He has the power and opportunities to do so, Trump said. Nothing has happened so far and TikTok thinks it is safe.
Occasion? The core issue is the trade war between the United States and China. Trump accuses TikTok of ties to the Chinese government that US citizens’ data is not secure. Even selling TikToks to a North American company, there were also a few rumors during the week, would not change his mind, Trump said.

Why did Trump specifically target TikTok? TikTok is probably one of the most successful, if not the most successful app from China that reaches a wider, international audience. Around one billion users use TikTok every month, especially young people. The provider believes himself to be safe and is optimistic in a Twitter video.

So thank you to the community and they don’t have to worry: you will of course remain represented in the United States. TikTok has long been trying to appear western in its image, even if there has been controversy about the removal of political content that was critical of China. However, TikTok claims that the company does not entirely belong to Bytedance, the Chinese mother, but to a large extent investment companies from the United States. The app itself is also not available in China.

What could Trump do to keep TikTok out of the US? One option would be e.g. B. to prohibit cooperation with the provider for US companies. Then Apple and Google would have to remove TikTok from the App Store and the Play Store, respectively. In the EU, too, data protectors are skeptical about TikTok, but they do not want to ban the app, but rather checks whether improvements to protect privacy would be necessary.
Now we have to wait and see how the TikTok case continues. I personally cannot do anything with the app and only took a few minutes to sniff it in. How are things with you?
