As Google and Twitter jointly announce, the direct messages of the social network become part of the conversation API of Android 11. B. make it easier to reply directly to messages without having to open the Twitter app first.
Google also provides more detailed information about the conversation API here. Essentially, developers have to consider a few requirements when designing notifications if they want to qualify for them. Then the corresponding notifications are released, for example as a shortcut in the launcher.
According to Twitter, some deeper adjustments were needed to optimize the DMS notifications for the conversation API. But think that the direct messages are now easier to use for users and also more prominent.
