These days, video calling is an indispensable opportunity for many to keep in touch with family and friends. Digital group conversations are now part of our daily life. Until recently, anyone using WhatsApp encountered the restriction of a maximum of four participants at the same time. But that has now been relaxed: in the Monday update of the app, a maximum of eight people can participate in a conversation.
Update
The update is now available in the App Store, for iOS users. The new version is not yet available on Google Play, but Android users can already download it from the WhatsApp website. The update will probably be added to the Android app store soon.
Competition
WhatsApp is one of the most used text chat apps in our country and now hopes to attract more video chapters with the update.
The service, part of Facebook, seems to feel exactly the hot breath of other video chat apps in the neck. With the popular video calling apps, you could already video chat for eight at a time, while Google Hangouts (10), Facetime (32), Skype (50), and ZOOM (100) allow even more participants.
WhatsApp in corona time
Until recently, WhatsApp was also widely used in corona times to send fake news. The service has now curbed that: you can only forward ‘often shared’ messages to one person at a time. According to WhatsApp, this restriction has resulted in popular messages being distributed about 70 percent less worldwide.
