WhatsApp is delaying the modification of its terms of use because there were many misunderstandings among users about the changes. The changes will now take effect in May 2021.
Users were presented with a pop-up message saying, ‘Businesses can use Facebook hosted services to store and manage WhatsApp chats’. They had to agree to this in order to continue using the app.

It aroused a lot of suspicions because there were fears that WhatsApp would sell personal information to companies. As a result, many removed WhatsApp from their smartphones and switched to competing apps like Signal and Telegram.
Telegram gained 25 million users in 72 hours.
Tesla boss Elon Musk and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey encouraged the installation of alternatives to WhatsApp via social media.
